Sunday evening: 7pm – 10pm
Venue: George Square Lecture Theatre, Edinburgh University

Our legendary Saturday Night Extreme session is a fun and fast-paced adventure. We have 4 awesome films, which will make you laugh, wince, and marvel and what some people get up to! After the films, we are stoked to welcome free-solo climber and BASE-jumper Steph Davis to the stage. Read on for full details.

The Films:

Hit The Ground Running (12 mins)
A tale of youthful ignorance in the sport of Speed-flying: a high adrenaline, high risk, extreme sport where serious accidents can and do happen.

Poumaka (15 mins)
Bouldering champion Angie Payne leaves everything she knows behind, venturing deep into the French Polynesian jungle with veteran climber and explorer, Mike Libecki, hoping to summit Poumaka Tower.
FINALIST – BEST SHORT FILM AWARD

Tight Loose – The Tordrillos (9 mins)
Three pro skiers board a beaver plane and fly deep into the Tordrillo Mountains in Alaska for a month-long winter camping trip. Their goal is simple – to climb and ski massive spine lines, each visible from their small camp, deep in the Alaskan wilderness.

The Accord (20 mins)
The reality of growing up a surfer in Iceland is different from anywhere else in the world. But being so far removed from the hustle and bustle of the known surf world hardens Iceland’s surfers to confront the issue they all must face: the North Atlantic wind.
FINALIST – BEST FILM AWARD

Guest Speaker – Steph Davis: Earth and Skysteph-1
Few climbers practice the high risk style of free solo climbing, using no ropes or protective gear. Steph is the most accomplished female free soloist in the world and is also one of world’s top wingsuit base jumpers. She is one of just a few people in the world combining free solo climbing with base jumping.

From an unusual start as a classically trained pianist with a Master’s degree in literature, Steph chose to leave law school in order to pursue climbing full time. She has become one of the most successful professional climbers in the world. In Steph’s reflective presentation, she will share the highs and the lows of a truly remarkable life.
